2024 Chevy Silverado Review: Workhorse or Status Symbol?
It’s time to test drive and review the manual 2024 Chevy Silverado High Country!
This High Country is a short-bed, 4-wheel-drive crew cab truck with Chevy’s 6.2-liter V8. It makes 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. All of that goes through a 10-speed automatic transmission to all four wheels.
Chevrolet trucks have been around since 1918, but the Silverado didn’t arrive until the 1999 model year. This year belongs to the fourth generation, and we’ll go through the Silverado 1500’s full history and generations in this video (including the new electric one!).
When you spec a Silverado, you first choose whether it’s a regular cab, double cab, or crew cab. Then you choose whether you want a regular bed, extended bed, or short bed. After that, you pick 2WD or 4WD.
Even in our selections for this loaner truck (4WD, short bed, crew cab), there are NINE different trim levels. Some models focus on off-road capabilities, some on luxury, and some on work.
The High Country edition is one of the more luxurious Silverados for sale, and you can buy it new with a 5.3-liter V8, a 6.2-liter V8, or a 3.0-liter Duramax turbodiesel. The base model starts at $48,000, while the High Country starts at $68,000.
My High Country had a few optional features: the $2,300 engine upgrade to the 6.2-liter; a $900 suspension package with adaptive ride control; a $400 active exhaust; and a $7,100 High Country Premium II package that includes General Motors’ Super Cruise hands-free driving technology, a power sunroof, all-weather floor liners, 22-inch wheels with chrome inserts, all-season tires, a rear camera mirror, and a bunch of other things.
Living in Texas my entire life, the Silverado, for me, has been a staple of my daily existence. I see them everywhere, and they communicate about who’s driving them: the blue-collar employee vs. the status-symbol driver vs. the big boss out in the country. It’s fascinating.
Driving one for the first time was so cool. I felt like I belonged in Texas in a whole new way, and it was so cool. That in itself is one of the big reasons to own one down here.
The Silverado is a good truck, and Super Cruise makes it an amazing vehicle to road trip. Hopefully this video shows you why (and what compromises you’ll make to get it).
Thanks for watching my UA-cam channel. Enjoy the drive (and the video)!

It’s time to test drive and review the manual 2024 Ford Mustang GT! This is the Mustang GT Premium Fastback, which starts at about $50,000. This one is optioned out to cost about $60,000, including: Rapid Red paint, the GT Performance Package, Ford’s Active Valve Exhaust, Recaro seats, the MagneRide damping system, and more. It’s a steep price, but it’s a really good car. This GT has a 5.0-lite...
Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison Review: Is Bigger Really Better?
Переглядів 14 тис.14 днів тому
It’s time to test drive and review the 2024 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison pickup truck! The Colorado is Chevy’s midsize truck, available in both rear-wheel-drive and four-wheel drive versions. The ZR2 Bison is the hardcore off-road version of the Colorado, designed to compete with trucks like the Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road and Ford Ranger Raptor. The Colorado is currently in its 3rd generation, ...
Why Donut Media Is Falling Apart: An Explainer
Переглядів 389 тис.21 день тому
What is happening at Donut Media? Who bought them? Who left? Let’s talk about it. Jeremiah Burton and Zach Jobe recently left Donut, an automotive UA-cam powerhouse, to start their own new channel called BigTime. Donut was a few years into its new era with venture-equity backing from Recurrent Ventures, and their “Why We’re Leaving Donut” video reminded everyone of the slew of “Why I’m Leaving ...

Переглядів 32 тис.Місяць тому
The 2024 Mazda MX-5 Miata is in its new era: the ND3. Let’s test drive and review it! For the 35th anniversary since the Miata debuted, Mazda flew us out to San Francisco, California to drive the new Miata and attend the Hillsborough Concours d’Elegance. There, we got to see a huge display of Miatas throughout the years: the original Chicago Auto Show cars from 1989, special editions like the M...
Toyota RAV4 Prime Review: Perfection... Minus One Thing
Переглядів 26 тис.Місяць тому
Let’s test drive and review the 2024 Toyota RAV4 Prime XSE! The Toyota RAV4 has been around since the mid-90s, when it debuted as a unibody SUV in a world of body-on-frame ones. It was meant to mix the comfort of a car with the size of an SUV, and these days, it’s a common thing - so common (and popular!) that in 2023, Toyota sold nearly 435,000 RAV4s in America alone. The RAV4 Prime is the ups...
2024 Genesis G70 Review: Luxury, But Make It Affordable
Переглядів 10 тис.Місяць тому
Let’s test drive and review the 2024 Genesis G70! The G70 is the smallest sedan offered by Genesis, Hyundai’s relatively young luxury brand. Above it are the G80 and G90 sedans, which get bigger and more expensive as the numbers in their names do. Alongside it is Genesis’ SUV lineup, which follows the same pattern: GV60 (electric-only), GV70, and GV80. A new model - the full-size, three-row GV9...

Indy 500: Can AI Predict the Results Better Than a Human?
Переглядів 2,5 тис.Місяць тому
For more than 100 years, the Indianapolis 500 has been one of the greatest tests of human and machine. So when I attended this year, I decided to do my own version of that test: Can artificial intelligence replace (my) human intelligence? Never, right? Thus, my human vs. AI competition began. Here’s the basic rundown: I pick my top-5 finishers in the Indy 500, then the computer does the same. W...
Tesla Cybertruck Review: Oh Dear, It's Here
Переглядів 38 тис.2 місяці тому
Let’s test drive and review the 2024 Tesla Cybertruck! The Cybertruck is brand new, and this truck is a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive model. It’s from the Foundation Series, which is an optional package that includes a few extra features and an earlier delivery day than other Cybertruck drivers. Foundation Series models are the first to be delivered, and this one only has 85 miles on it. The Cybe...

It’s time to test drive and review the manual 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse! Today, we’re joined by my favorite singer from my favorite band: Craig Mabbitt of @escapethefate. Craig is on tour with @EmoOrchestra, so we just picked him up for a drive before the show. Ford calls the Dark Horse “the horse you never saw coming,” and most of us didn’t. Переглядів 43 тис.2 місяці тому
It’s time to test drive and review the 2024 Lexus IS 500 F Sport! The IS 500 F Sport is a rarity. It’s a mid-tier performance sedan with a naturally aspirated V8 engine that makes 472 horsepower, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, rear-wheel drive, and a loud, proud, and lovely exhaust sound. All of that takes the car from 0-60 mph in about 4.4 seconds. The IS is Lexus’ compact ...
2023 Toyota Prius Review: All Hybrid, No Embarrassment
Переглядів 12 тис.2 місяці тому
Let’s test drive and review the 2023 Toyota Prius Limited! This car is from the new fifth generation of the Prius, and it has a sticker price of $37,500. No, this edition is not the Prius Prime. I’m sorry. It’s also not a plug-in hybrid - this Prius charges the battery while it drives, so you don’t have to worry about anything. The Toyota Prius has long been the subject of undeserved criticism....
Why NASCAR Is So Much More Than ‘Left Turns’

Earlier in April, we went to Texas Motor Speedway for a full weekend of racing: the @NASCAR Truck Series, Xfinity Series, and Cup Series. When I went the first time, I didn’t watch practice or qualifying. I ju...
Lexus LC 500 Review: The Most Under-Rated Car of Our Time

It’s time to test drive and review the 2024 Lexus LC 500! The LC 500 isn’t just an under-appreciated car - it’s also lesser known outside of car circles. “LC” stands for “Luxury Coupe,” and the full name of this particular car is actually the 2024 Bespoke Build Lexus LC 500 Coupe. The LC 500 comes with a naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 engine (no turbos here!). The car makes 471 horsepower and...

If people pay Tesla 10,000 dollars for the auto pilot, even knowing that the software is there but won't work if you don't pay. WHY WOULDN'T OTHER MANUFACTURERS CHARGE FOR THEIRS OWN FEATURES?!😂 Possibly Better and way Cheaper than Teaslas.
Great video.
If you have any you should show all your trunk fails at the end of the year 😂
It’s a fun daily driver, it’s not an exciting daily driver..
we need more girls in the car scene. subbed
Ahhhh thank you so much
Great video. Very informative for those is us who are not in your industry. I clicked on it, because I've been clicking on anything recently with Bigtime in the title (which I realized this doesn't have, but indirectly references it). You are right, they (Bigtime) got back to why I started watching Donut. Donut stopped doing things like Money Pit, so I left. Liked and subscribed to your channel. Look forward to seeing your content.
Appreciate this so much. Thank you, Chad
Just gotta say, I absolutely hate wireless everything. Modern cars are trying to be like modern LG refrigerators, which are trying to be iPads, and I really just want a machine that does exactly what I tell it to.
Fair!
I hope the rest of the host on donut join up with big time or do their own thing. We need to stop letting people with big pockets tell us what we can and can not do. They can F off for all I care.
I would rather have that size sunroof then the whole roof lol
That’s a fine preference!
6.2L > 3.0
Only Engine that has a 8 speed is the 2.7L
That’s why I said the lower trims are standard with the 8-speed. It’s too many words to go deep into specs details that are not relevant to this specific spec of truck
"Hooo... ahr yhou nohtt ehnteh-TAHYn'd.." 🤷🏻♂️
I always wondered what happened to Jalopnik to make it what it has turned into. A shadow of its former self. Filled with nothing but ads, pointless video clips and opinions both automotive and (mostly) political. I remember when Jalopnik was new, me and the guys I used to work with used to sit down every day at lunch and read through Jalopnik. We got automotive news, nice price or crack pipe, and educational materials too. Time changes everything, that shop I used to work for closed a number of years ago when its owner retired, and it got bought out by a different party. It lasted less than one year after that. I own my own shop now, and finally removed Jalopnik from my bookmarked pages after finding little left to be interested in. I guess time changes everything sometimes good sometimes bad.
Wow did anyone make it through the ad at the beginning???
Symbol like Renault Symbol? 🤣 Seems compact by American standards.
Hahahahaha
nice Miata review !!!! subscribed
Thank you 🤠
Thats not Emo! Emo is maximum cringe, the dark horse is just a bit cringe. Not even close to Emo!
It's still a rebadged BMW.
We were a GM family growing up, because they truly were the best for the value and held the highest resale values, but after my purchase of a 2014 silverado it was a disaster, extremely cheap build quality, and my AC condenser started leaking 200 miles out of warranty and wasn’t covered, it was a very common problem for 2014-15 model years. Add to that the recent scandal of GM selling their customers driving data to lexis nexis who then in turn sold said driving data to customer’s insurance companies, who then either raised rates or flat out cancelled customer policies has made it to where I will never purchase a GM product ever again
I’m sorry you had so many issues! That’s always so stressful
Another great review! The new camera angle facing the dash during the driving segment was a welcome addition, bonus points if you're able to use it in future videos. Speaking of Chevrolet, did I hear a reference to a potential Corvette review 😁?
I would loooove to review a Corvette soon. We’ll try to do more GoPro angles when it cools off, for sure - just may be a few months. We had to do this driving section twice due to overheating 😞
She missed the fact that there is no glove box light. For what these cost, is a glove box light too much to ask for?
The LC500 is the ultimate keeper.
So good
As an owner of several Mustangs.... I wish I still had my 1986 Mustang GT .... And I will never ever get rid of my Bought new 2012 Boss 302. The best Mustang of all time IMO. When you take your 6spd Boss 302 out after a hard work day you dnt care about screens, heated seats, nav, etc... you have a/c if needed and thats all you need. Again IMO :)
That’s awesome! I’m glad you love them
We know…… It’s overpriced and lacks AWD. Living in the North East, our Grand Tourers need to be able to conquer inclement weather.
The sign of a great automotive UA-camr is when you can get people to watch 27-minute videos about vehicles they have zero interest in. Which is exactly what you've done. I know when I watch one of your videos, I'll (a) learn something, and (b) get some laughs along the way. In this case, I learned so much more about GM's Super Cruise than I'd ever known before. Bravo!
This means a ton, Kurt. Thank you. I’m really honored you watched (and enjoyed!)
As someone who makes things for all of the big 3, Tesla, and Rivian I love these videos so much. It helps me get a better idea of what I'm making stuff for
This is so kind of you. Thank you for saying it
How lazy as a person do you have to be to have super cruise? If you're that lazy, don't drive at all and get a life.
roflmao.. the clickbaits nice! GG anyways my take is... business is ********** and the channel failing cause CORPORATE and dead business no face, disgusting corporate Ai bot content
Same as the s550 basscially, except has a big ugly screen like every other cheap plastic new car. Not a fan, and this s650 really makes me appreciate the last gen mustangs after my s197 I wanna get a gt350
GT350 is good!
Super cruise and blue cruise have been my favorite features of the modern era. And yes better than Tesla
Really enjoyed Super Cruise
Didn’t expect 1 Alanís to fit in the short bed, on the market for a pickup with crew cab 6.5’ bed. The cowgirl boot missing for the perfect review 🤩
I don’t own any! Isn’t that wild
@@AlanisKing 💯 especially for a girl from Texas 😁
I can connect with BigTime content a lot more than the cookie cutter Donut media stuff now. We wanted UptoSpeed and Money Pitt but they continue to make the usual safe content
Awesome video, just subscribed. Most car reviews are so dry and cookie-cutter, and yours was the total opposite. I like that you emphasized the emotional aspect that comes with the decision when buying a certain car, it doesn't always have to be completely logical, sometimes have to less loose and have fun. Keep up the great work!
Awwww thank you so much! For real!
Great review … a near $80k truck for the boss that’ll likely never leave the pavement and is super nice except some cheap hard plastics for some unjustifiable reasons. I think you are doing the best real world truck review going these days … Keep it up!! Thanks 👊🏻😎
Aw! Thank you so much Ted!
Love the mx5 and mark 4 has grown on me 🤙only slight issues I can report from RF is lots of wind noise over 50 and on motorways! don’t expect any storage space in cockpit 🤔 great car well done Mazda 👊
We had the wind noise issue too! Cut it for time, but it’s def there. Hope you love the car for a long time
Make trucks trucks again.
They’re certainly large
@@AlanisKing They're luxury vehicles with diminishing utility. They became so because Big Three never quite seemed to get the memo that people wanted quality cars at a fair price. So all those sales went to Japanese companies. The only thing they had left was trucks, and then instead of doing as their founders did, which was try to get those vehicles in the hands of everyone of all income brackets, they decided they'd rather sell one 100,000 vehicle instead of five twenty thousand dollar vehicles. And as far as I'm concerned they can pound sand. They sent huge swathes of good paying jobs to other countries, and then pocketed the savings they gained from slave labor wages all the while doubling what Americans pay for their vehicles. Now Americans don't have the jobs that would allow them to pay for the cheaper vehicles let alone the ridiculously overpriced vehicles that aren't even worth that price. A truck is a work vehicle. It should be sturdy, simple, affordable, reliable, and easy to maintain. Is this truck even one of those things? Again. They can all pound sand as far as I'm concerned.
Chrome...chrome...chroooome *glances at my 2018 LS with all the chrome* Uh, ya...luxury.
Hahahahaha
I just think this version of the Silverado is not Chevy's best truck going forward. Engine and transmissions are no longer needed in a LD pick up truck. It is time to switch over the new LT or Trail Boss trims for 2025 look great or go with the RST or WT 2024 trims. Either way you get a better vehicle than this version in the chevy line up.
Fair!
I’m extremely jealous of how well Alanis rocked that cowboy hat 😢😂
I was shocked at how much I liked it
I love these videos because they're what automotive television SHOULD be
Thank you ❤️
A base work truck without four-wheel drive shouldn't cost damn near 58 Grand it should cost more along the lines of 28 grand
Remember, all the prices I read were with 4WD and crew cab! 2WD is a little cheaper
Push to start sucks. I wish there was an option to take out the Infotainment system as well. No need for it in a compact work truck.
Fair!
I am not a truck guy, but IMHO that's a prety decent looking truck. The front grill and headlights kinda reminds me of the 2010s era Camaro. Great review, hope this channel continues to grow. Also I will keep saying it: Alanis's t-shirt game SLAYS.
Awwww thank you always, love seeing the cat pic in my comments every week
I like your videos, but I just can't watch pickup videos. I gave it a try, but just couldn't get through it. Nothing to do with you or your presentation, I'm just an anomaly among Americans - someone who can't stand pickups.
Thank you for trying!
